THE WORLD OF DOUBLING WITH THE MASTER FABRIZIO PUCCI

Having the opportunity to enter the world of dubbing, under the guidance of the great Maestro Fabrizio Pucci, was an extraordinary experience, as well as for the students of the Cinema Players school, also for the guests and friends of our home.

Winner of the “Leggio d’oro voce telefilm” award (2011), and also the award for Italian dialogues – Cinema section at the “Voci nell’Ombra” Festival (2017) for the film “Manchester by the Sea”.

Official voice of Hugh Jackman, also famous for voicing Brendan Fraser in most of his films and other dubbed actors include: Russell Crowe, Dolph Lundgren, Josh Brolin, Jon Hamm and many other movie stars.

Fabrizio Pucci, great Italian voice actor and also one of the most beautiful voices in dubbing, told anecdotes, secrets and many stories of his great career.

From the very beginning, the great Maestro created a special synergy with our students, explaining the importance of having a base (acting school) where you can learn all the techniques of acting. After this, dubbing can come as a specialization that requires a lot of attention; ability to listen and the ability to understand how the actor, who is dubbing himself, used his voice.

Everyone has their own voice, you shouldn’t try to learn how to make your voice beautiful because, as the teacher says, a beautiful voice does not exist. Voice is a sound, dubbing is a sound.

One of the important techniques of this trade is the ability to manage one’s tools. An actor can have the greatest power, but if he doesn’t know how to manage it, when and how much to use it, the same power cannot help. One must know how to manage one’s inner power without losing control. Knowing how to manage the things accumulated within us (the joys, the pains, …) and use them on command when needed by the character. Everything is contained in the ability to combine technique with emotions and talent.

“What a dubbed actor has to follow is not the mouth (you are always late in following the mouth), but the eyes and the breathing. When you breathe with the character, and look at the eyes, you don’t need a mouth ”.

Dubbing is a completion, an extra technique for an actor who already knows the tools and has an acting base.

“Each acting technique is an instrument. Technique and emotion must always go together. One without the other does not work. Acting in front of a microphone or in front of an audience or a camera is exactly the same thing. You need to have the ability to close the world around you, and be there, where you need to be. In our case, there is a screen where you have to enter, there is a person (actor to be dubbed), who is not you, and you have to understand what operation he is doing.” Cit. Fabrizio Pucci.

In the end, we can only say that the Cinema Players school had the great honor of having the opportunity to host the Grand Master of dubbing, actor, voice actor, dialogist and dubbing director, and to have an internship where the characteristics and techniques of this craft.

It was a beautiful and precious adventure to hear the voice of “Wolverine” from the “X-Men” live, and to be inside this wonderful world called “the Dubbing”.
